Doesn't he just review games? I can think of a dozen web sites (IGN, 1UP.com, and GameSpy, etc.) that just talk games; why are people so concerned? He will find another job! I bet he is shopping around right now looking for another rival site to pay his mortgage.
He might even be creating a 5.99 GoDaddy account of his own right now!
Who wouldn't want his job full of black gold and fame?
It's not the fact that he was fired that is so touchy... it's the possibility of GameSpot (or any of the other major vg related website or publication) reviews being tampered by advertising dollars. Can we trust any... so it's much bigger than just the termination of Jeff's job. The situation DID, however, get blown out of proportion from a bunch of unfortunate coincidences but it did bring up a major issue of certitude.
I agree, lot's of people can do that job and do it well. I think the concern is the state of the industry. If the people up top start firing writers for giving an honest opinion because it does not jive with the advertisers, then there may be a problem. Then again, there is no real proof that the reason he was fired had anything to do with that complaint call. Although it may have been the straw that caused the red rings if you know what I'm sayin. I think that's the stink.
Where is the proof that this hasn't happened before? If Gerstman was fired due to advertising dollars someone else had to have the same thing happen to him... hopefully more people come out.

It matters because many people relied on gamespot and his reviews for an honest review and after 11 years that may be tainted. It matters because they were supposed to be immune from these shenanigans.
Scot he still gave the game a 6! Does a "horrible" game deserve a 6? I would think it deserves worse than a 6 how about a 1? Or a 2? He was totally unprofessional and brash, I think the only game that was unanimously hailed as horrible was the Nintendo 64 Superman game and that got a 1.3!
Yes they altered his review, but they still kept his score?
